Here's the peek around the left-hand [north side] corner that i promised
you. It's a good look into the arch and you can see that way up at the top
it's not a keystone, but is a slab bridging the two verticals - and those
were made by tipping each course of stone just a little further out than
the one below it. I've wondered if they did't make big piles of packed earth
and then build the brick along the outside and remove the dirt afterward
- because i have trouble believing the balancing act involved here. Obviously
non-union crew...
